Flowerburst Installations

Flowerburst is the term I use to refer to a form I often create in my freeform paper cutting work. The shape is something between a flower and the burst of light of a firework.

Each individual piece of the installation is hand cut from drawing paper painted with acrylic ink, and is approximately 3 inches in diameter. There are currently approximately 250 individual flowerburst pieces that can be arranged into a wall installation.

I created the installation as a modular piece so that it could be configured in multiple arrangements. The flowerbursts are attached in layers to pieces of black or white foam core using small pins.

Pictured below are two variations of the installation. The work has been shown three times over the years, at Hot Art Wet City gallery, Circle Craft Gallery, and Mary E. Black Gallery - Centre for Craft Nova Scotia.
