Pattern Mixing Series

The pattern mixing series demonstrates a new direction in my paper art, elevating the complexity of my craft. Inspiration is drawn from everyday elements — clothing, interior design, and architecture — which are combined with patterns made up during the process of developing each piece on paper at the drawing stage.

I began studying patterns in 2015 at an artist residency as a means to expand my work. I felt the need to evolve my initial method of creation through the spontaneous cutting of asymmetrical non-repeating patterns utilizing a select repertoire of shapes. The pattern mixing series incorporates a variety of designs, from highly structured geometry, to clusters of leaf shapes, to asymmetrical compositions, all flowing and contained within the larger form.
